7 out of 8 agree...We have the momentum.
Earlier this year I kicked off my campaign to be Georgia's next Secretary of State. I started with no political network, no long list of endorsements, no previous run for statewide office and virtually zero name ID.
Although we're not there yet, we have certainly come a long way, and I wanted to share with you the progress we have made, particularly in regards to our grassroots organization. Below is part of an internal memo my campaign manager sent to me this morning. In short, we have gained the momentum and are winning in a vital category that will be crucial next summer.
...Doug has spent a significant portion of the past year traveling the state speaking to GOP organizations, meeting with grassroots activists and party leaders. As outlined in our original plan, Doug needed to introduce himself to the party faithful outside of Atlanta and his home GOP organization, Fulton County.
One data point to look at when gauging support at the grassroots level is straw polls. Going back to the latter half of summer, Doug has won 7 of the last 8 major straw polls conducted by local GOP organizations. Wins are from the following counties: Cobb, DeKalb, Glynn, Henry, Muscogee, Union, and Walker. Each time Doug won handily, sometimes by a 2-to-1 margin. The one poll where Doug fell short was in his opponent's old senate district-where he still managed to earn 40% of the vote.
Lastly, these victories demonstrate the campaign's ability to organize and execute at the grassroots level. Again, as previously discussed in our original plan, in a down ballot race such as ours, it is vitally important to have an effective and efficient grassroots and volunteer effort. So far, the evidence proves we are on track with this goal and are outperforming in this category.
As I've said before, no one will work harder than I will to be your next Secretary of State.
-Doug
